First McManus Clan Gathering — 1992

The first McManus Clan Gathering took place 4–7 September 1992, with Drumshanbo as its focal point and programme visits to County Fermanagh, Keadue, Arigna and Kilronan Castle.

DRUMSHANBO – The McManus Clan Gathering held as part of the inaugural Irish Homecoming Festival took place last weekend with Drumshanbo being the focal point of interest for several international members of the Clan. Organiser Betty McManus and her hard working committee held a series of social functions throughout the week-end. The Registration evening last Friday attracted McManus clan members from as far away as Sydney, Australia, Canada, the U.S. and of course, England. The week-end of celebration concluded Monday last with an Open Air Finale featuring members of the Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann. Well done to all concerned and let’s hope this novel idea bears even greater fruit in the coming years.

Friday, 4 September

7.00 p.m. — Clan Gathering and Registration. Cheese and Wine Reception.

Saturday, 5 September

10.30 a.m. — Genealogy Seminar and talk in Teach Ceoil by Mr. Sean O’Suillebhan.
12.00 noon — Coach trip to Bell-Isle, Co. Fermanagh, where the seminar will continue. Talk by Frank McManus, Fermanagh.
8.30 p.m. — Banquet with Guest speakers. Election of Chieftain. O’Carolan Harp music played through Banquet.

Sunday, 6 September

11.30 a.m. — Mass in Keadue Church.
2.30 p.m. — Roots Workshop in Keadue and Talks by Dr. Hugh Gibbons, local historian.
4.30 p.m. — Scenic drive through Arigna taking in Coalfields and Kilronan Castle.

Monday, 7 September

11.00 a.m. — Sean O’Suillebhan available in Library. Dealing with individual requests and discussions on family history.
2.30 p.m. — Open Air Finale with the McManus family and members of Comhaltas Ceolteori Eireann.
